RICHARD BOTCHWAY

'Butch' as he is popularly
known joined Westend from Lamb Inn when they dropped out of the
District League. A very experienced defender, a good
passer of the ball with superb vision and tactical knowledge.
Very quiet off the field but is never short of a word or two
during a match. Likes to referee the game as well as play
but the decibel level has definitely gone down since joining
Westend. |
|
OLIVER HAYDEN-MALPASS

A tall strong confident player who
could develop into a very good striker. Gaining valuable
experience in the Reserve team having played in a number of
positions so far this season. Needs to improve his
passing ability and be more aware of what is happening around
him on the pitch. One of a crop of excellent young
prospects at the Club. The future is very bright indeed at
Westend! |
|
GAVIN BUCKNOR

Gav can be a
match winner on his day but is not
consistent enough to maintain a regular first team place.
Lightning quick and a good finisher with excellent ball skills.
Needs to string some good performances together in the Reserve
team to push for a regular first team spot. He is now at
the age when he should be reaching his full potential at the
Club. |
|
ANDY MELLOR

Strong powerful midfielder who played in our
Junior section for many years. Excellent header and
fearsome tackler who has settled very comfortably into the First
Team squad. Needs to get on the score sheet more often but
not easy to do from his midfield anchor role. Will be a
positive influence in the team when the going gets heavy during
the Winter months
|
|
NICK DYSON
Another very promising
prospect from the junior ranks. Enjoys playing up front
and has the pace and ability to cause problems for defenders.
Should be pushing for a Reserve team place this season and may
well be given a chance in the First team if he continues to make
the progress expected by the management. |
|
JOHN VENTERS

JV entered the Westend Hall Of Fame
when he became only the second player to reach the 100
appearances milestone. A tremendously quick right winger
who has provided many 'assists' during his career.
Unfortunately work commitments have made it difficult for him to
play regularly. |
|
Spot anybody still
playing at Westend?
 |
|
DORRAN NOEL

"Mr Versatile" - Doz can play
anywhere on the pitch including goalkeeper. Has been a
regular member of the first team for many seasons. Always
gives 100% and very rarely turns in a bad performance.
Travels over from Lancashire to play and train every week.
Not a regular goal scorer but has been known to pop up with a
vital strike every so often. |
|

CHRIS HAMPSON
23 years old Chris
is a player who has improved tremendously over the last
two seasons. Now needs to play with confidence and
demand the ball much more - especially if playing in the
midfield area. Needs to do the simple things well!
|
|
PEARCE HEGGIE

Another player who has come on
leaps and bounds over the last twelve months. Very rarely
misses training and never gives less than 100%. A play
anywhere type who will probably develop into a striker providing
he can improve his first touch and add some aggression to his
game. |
|
JOE WHITELEY

One of the most popular characters
at Westend, Joe has been a Westend player since the age of four.
A talented sportsman who sets a superb example to other players
in training and on match days. A left footer who is
equally at home in defence or attack. Currently playing in
the Reserve team but has played well in a number of first team
appearances. |
|
AARON BAXTER

A genuine play anywhere very
popular one club man! A very talented, tough tackling
youngster who sets a terrific example to his team mates with his
non stop effort and work rate. Enjoys playing in midfield
but is equally at home in defence. He will become a regular first team player for many
years to come. |
|
DARREN HAIGH
One
of the most improved players at the Club. Very rarely
misses training and is able to play in a number of positions.
Currently playing in the 'A' team but if he continues to
maintain the progress he has made to date he should be pushing
for a reserve team place over the next couple of years.

FRANK O.DION

Born in Nigeria Frank is one of
the most popular players at the Club. A very fast striker,
he entered the Westend Hall Of Fame by scoring the winning goal
in the 2006 Groom Cup Final. Although he has been known to
miss a few chances he has finished top scorer for the
First Team on five occasions. |
