REPORTS

Honley 3 Westend 5
District League Div 2
This was a fine display from a much changed Westend team who despite going 2-0 down in the first ten minutes fought back to get all three points in this relegation clash at Jagger Lane.
Jason Coleman pulled a goal back with a low right footer after Frank Odion’s shot had rebounded off the post but the home side scored again just before the break to lead 3-1.
The fighting spirit of this revitalised squad was soon in evidence and two goals from Odion levelled the scores.
The best move of the game saw Adam Wain finish from ten yards after a superb layoff from Toyan Greaves. Five minutes from time Man of the match Odion put the icing on the cake with a fine finish from an Eddie McNamee cross.
Rastrick 6 Westend Tigers 1
Under 12 Cup
Faced by another first team outfit, the Tigers can be proud of their performance against Second Division Rastrick.
A reshuffled Westend team were never able to recover from conceding three early goals but a consolation goal from Manuel Mainetti was deserved reward for an excellent display.

Next week the lads have to face yet another first team in table topping Northowram who beat them 10-0 earlier in the season.

Clifton 3 Westend Lions 2
Under 11
Westend slipped up in the last few minutes as Clifton took the three points today.  A windy day was had for both teams as the home side scored twice in the early stages of the game.
The away side played the ball round well as Morton went on one of his runs past two players only to shoot at the keeper but Lee was on hand to score just before half time.

Westend took full control as Morton hit the target to level the game and there were more missed chances as the away team went up a gear. France went close as did Hussain and Jake Morton.  In the dying minutes the home side slotted one more past the Westend keeper to take all three points.

HAFC 5 Westend Tigers 2
Under 12
This was a superb battling performance by the Tigers against a side that had thrashed them 9-0 in their previous encounter.
Playing against a first team is never easy and the home side looked far superior in the opening stages.  Only some inspired saves from stand in keeper Jake Rushworth kept Westend in the game but he was powerless to stop the home side scoring three times in ten minutes.
A fine strike from Jack Wilde just before the break gave his side hope for the second half but weak defending gifted the home side a 5-1 lead before a brilliant run from halfway by Man Of The Match Sam Robinson saw the striker finish in great style to give the Westend lads a deserved consolation goal.

Very windy weather today!  A big thank you to the parents for holding onto the goals so we could play.
The Tigers and the Pumas were fastest out of the blocks winning their first games 5-0 and 4-0 but only the Pumas continued it with a 5-0 win against the Tigers, Michael, Connor G and Owen were outstanding for the Pumas.
The Lions suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to the Tigers in the first match but made up for it with a 6-2 win against the Leopards and 2-1 against the Pumas, making the Lions the team of the day. Well done to George, Joe, Levent, Sam and Finley. Finally Joseph and Nicholas deserve a mention for their great start for the Tigers. Thank you also to Francesca for refereeing.
Cumberworth 2 Westend Tigers 1
Under 11
A strong wind made life difficult for both teams but Westend playing with the advantage created several chances but Cumberworth netted just before the break for a HT score 1-0.
Sam Hollingworth and Cameron Whitworth were putting pressure on the home defence with their strong running but the home team took their next chance to go 2-0 up.
Westend showed no sign of surrender and driven forward by Matthew Noble and Josh Armstrong eventually pulled a goal back through Isaac Brown

Further chances were created and the Cumberworth goalkeeper was outstanding in the final 10 minutes as the reds surged forward, with Brown, Raw and Armstrong all going close.

Luke Bower was impressive all the game at left back but the Westend defence was superbly marshalled by MOM Ed Raw and Danny Fawcett.

Cumberworth 6 Westend Lions 1
Under 15
Not many minutes were on the clock when Westend gave away a soft penalty but James Herdman stood tall and saved the resulting spot kick.  With Tom Travas taking the captain's armband and playing at centre back in a re-jigged side Westend looked solid.
Yet again the reds gifted the first goal to the opposition but had chances to get back into the game with some good approach play,.  Eventually they were rewarded with an equaliser when a great counter attack ended with Ben Wilson chipping the keeper.  All the hard work was undone when their opponents scored straight from the kick off.
The legs were starting to go on a side that had not played for over a month and with no subs the lads gave their but conceded four more goals in the second half.
Batley 9 Westend Tigers 0
Under 14
With only 10 men they got off to the worst possible start conceding 2 goals in the opening 7 minutes to the first teamers of Second Division Batley.
The Tigers started to get more involved and it looked for one moment that going into the break with a 2 goal deficit would have been acceptable, but poor defending then cost another 3 goals.
Batley scored again to lead 6-0 as the Tigers began to tire and in the dying minutes conceded a further 3 goals.
Goalkeeper Reece Hayden-Malpass was awarded Tigers man-of-the-match by Batley for preventing the result being much worse.

Westend 2 Royal Dolphins 2
District League Div 2
With only two players surviving from the early season drubbing at Crow Lane the home side were confident of taking all three points off the table topping Milnsbridge side.
Westend opened the scoring in the second minute when a superb move saw top scorer Frank Odion score from close range.  Minutes later another excellent passing move gave Greg Meade the chance to smash home a fine strike that went in off the crossbar .to give his side a well deserved 2-0 interval lead.
The home side then had to battle the second half against the worsening elements and conceded twice despite some fine defensive play from Richard Botchway, Andre Willox, Craig Boustead, Jason Coleman and Niall Hollingworth.  Stand in keeper Andy Mellor earned the Man Of The Match award with a fine display between the sticks.
Mount Reserves 2 Westend Reserves 6
District League Reserve Div 2
It took a while for the reds to get going in the very windy conditions but from the first corner of the game Joe Davies headed home at the back post.  Mount were always on the back foot with the pace of Lockwood and Venters giving Ash Fitzpatrick the chance to add a second with a shot from 12 yards out.
A goal early in the second half from Nathan Lockwood seemed to spur the reds on and Ash Fitzpatrick added his second.  Mount pulled a goal back with an excellent finish from just inside the box.
Westend were not able to play their usual passing game but adjusted to the conditions well and were rewarded with Fitzpatrick completing his hat trick.  Mount pulled another goal back to make it 5-2 before Fitzpatrick added his fourth to round off a good day.

There was a good turn out on Saturday morning despite the adverse weather conditions, and the boys made light of the strong wind to produce some good football.
It was the Blues against the Greens, and in a competitive game the Greens eventually won out 11-7.
For the Greens Oscar Dawber and Euan Little both scored fine hat tricks whilst Mason Seymour and Oliver Bottomley both scored two goals apiece for the Blues.
The move of the game came from the Greens. Joseph Coleman made a good save and quickly threw the ball out to Finlay Brennan, who sent Euan Little through to give the keeper no chance with a sweet shot into the bottom right hand corner.
