Honley 3 Westend 5 |
|
District League Div 2 |
|
This was a
fine display from a much changed Westend team who despite
going 2-0 down in the first ten minutes fought back to get
all three points in this relegation clash at Jagger Lane. |
|
Jason Coleman
pulled a goal back with a low right footer after Frank
Odion’s shot had rebounded off the post but the home side
scored again just before the break to lead 3-1. |
|
The fighting
spirit of this revitalised squad was soon in evidence and
two goals from Odion levelled the scores. |
|
The best move
of the game saw Adam Wain finish from ten yards after a
superb layoff from Toyan Greaves. Five minutes from time Man
of the match Odion put the icing on the cake with a fine
finish from an Eddie McNamee cross. |

Rastrick 6 Westend Tigers 1 |
|
Under 12 Cup |
|
Faced by
another first team outfit, the Tigers can be proud of their
performance against Second Division Rastrick. |
|
A
reshuffled Westend team were never able to recover from
conceding three early goals but a consolation goal from
Manuel Mainetti was deserved reward for an excellent
display. |
|
Next week the lads have to
face yet another first team in table topping Northowram who
beat them 10-0 earlier in the season. |

Clifton 3 Westend Lions 2 |
|
Under 11 |
|
Westend
slipped up in the last few minutes as Clifton took the three
points today. A windy day was had for both teams as the
home side scored twice in the early stages of the game. |
|
The away
side played the ball round well as Morton went on one of his
runs past two players only to shoot at the keeper but Lee
was on hand to score just before half time. |
|
Westend
took full control as Morton hit the target to level the game
and there were more missed chances as the away team went up
a gear. France went close as did Hussain and Jake Morton.
In the dying minutes the home side slotted one more past the
Westend keeper to take all three points. |
|
HAFC 5 Westend Tigers 2 |
|
Under 12 |
|
This was
a superb battling performance by the Tigers against a side
that had thrashed them 9-0 in their previous encounter. |
|
Playing
against a first team is never easy and the home side looked
far superior in the opening stages. Only some inspired
saves from stand in keeper Jake Rushworth kept Westend in
the game but he was powerless to stop the home side scoring
three times in ten minutes. |
|
A fine
strike from Jack Wilde just before the break gave his side
hope for the second half but weak defending gifted the home
side a 5-1 lead before a brilliant run from halfway by Man
Of The Match Sam Robinson saw the striker finish in great
style to give the Westend lads a deserved consolation goal. |

Very
windy weather today! A big thank you to the parents for
holding onto the goals so we could play. |
|
The
Tigers and the Pumas were fastest out of the blocks winning
their first games 5-0 and 4-0 but only the Pumas continued
it with a 5-0 win against the Tigers, Michael, Connor G and
Owen were outstanding for the Pumas. |
|
The Lions
suffered a heavy 5-0 loss to the Tigers in the first match
but made up for it with a 6-2 win against the Leopards and
2-1 against the Pumas, making the Lions the team of the day.
Well done to George, Joe, Levent, Sam and Finley. Finally
Joseph and Nicholas deserve a mention for their great start
for the Tigers. Thank you also to Francesca for refereeing.

|
Cumberworth 2 Westend Tigers 1 |
|
Under 11 |
|
A strong
wind made life difficult for both teams but Westend playing
with the advantage created several chances but Cumberworth
netted just before the break for a HT score 1-0. |
|
Sam
Hollingworth and Cameron Whitworth were putting pressure on
the home defence with their strong running but the home team
took their next chance to go 2-0 up. |
|
Westend
showed no sign of surrender and driven forward by Matthew
Noble and Josh Armstrong eventually pulled a goal back
through Isaac Brown |
|
Further
chances were created and the Cumberworth goalkeeper was
outstanding in the final 10 minutes as the reds surged
forward, with Brown, Raw and Armstrong all going close. |
|
Luke
Bower was impressive all the game at left back but the
Westend defence was superbly marshalled by MOM Ed Raw and
Danny Fawcett. |
